Log Home Staining
At Summit Restoration LLC, the most satisfying step in our restoration process is the application of the stain. There are many different situations for homes which require different types of stains that will work the best in that particular environment or situation. Many factors come into play when it comes to choosing the right finish—location, home style, budget, desired texture and desired color. With the stain being the most important line of defense against sunlight, fungus, and moisture for the exterior logs, we always encourage home owners to review the options for the best stain available to provide your home with integrity, longevity and beauty.
Since we do not distribute/sell any of these products, you can count on us to have your best interests in mind when it comes to selecting the proper finish for your home. There are a variety of stains; for an overview of a few examples of stain types, water base finishes tend to set up on the surface of the wood and protect the wood from outside-in (oil base products will protect the wood from inside-out). Water base finishes tend to offer a more premium look due to having more pigment and sitting higher on the surface. Also, water base finishes will often be a better choice if sealants are being applied before or after. Water base products are a Green choice, as they are far less harmful to the environment.
We’ll share with you the pros and con’s of all the products and tell you which we believe would be best for your home, and let you choose. Regardless of your choice, we always apply all products according to the manufacturer’s directions and apply a top coat. The top coat is a clear sealer that is sprayed on lightly on top of the stain. It will serve to bring out a richer, deeper color—but it is also the product that is most necessary for repelling water and filth. It creates a slicker surface that makes it hard for dirt, dust, or pollen to stick to.
One of Summit Restoration LLC’s many specialties is the staining process of log homes, always resulting with a finish that will last for many years to come—all-the-while looking beautiful. We strive to provide the best methods to preserving the beauty and integrity of your log home, and leaving it more cost efficient to maintain.
